...HIGH SURF WARNING IN EFFECT FOR NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES
OF NIIHAU KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI...NORTH FACING SHORES OF MAUI AND
WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND...
...HIGH SURF ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR NORTH FACING SHORES OF THE

...COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT IN EFFECT FOR ALL HAWAIIAN ISLANDS...

.Surf along exposed north- and west-facing shores will rapidly
build and exceed warning levels today, which will persist through
Wednesday. Overwash onto vulnerable low-lying roadways and
properties is likely, especially during the early morning peak
tide cycle or by daybreak. Additionally, minor coastal flooding
will remain likely this morning by daybreak due to elevated water
levels, even in sheltered coastal areas away from direct surf
exposure.

* WHAT...Surf rising to 35 to 45 feet along north facing shores.
Surf rising to 20 to 30 feet along west facing shores of Niihau,
Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai. For west facing shores of the Big
Island, surf rising to 8 to 12 feet.

* WHERE...North and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu,
Molokai, north facing shores of Maui, and west facing shores of
the Big Island.

* WHEN...For the High Surf Warning, until 6 PM HST Wednesday.
For the Coastal Flood Statement, until noon HST today.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of beaches that are normally dry, minor
coastal erosion, and saltwater inundation. High. Expect very
strong breaking waves and powerful currents. Waves breaking in
channel entrances may make navigating the channels dangerous.

Avoid driving through flooded roadways. If you are forced to
drive through salt water, be sure to rinse your vehicle with
fresh water. Move electronics, vehicles or other valuables to
higher ground. Monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don't get
too tight and watch out for overwash around boat ramps. Secure
canoes or other watercraft stowed on beaches.

Stay away from the shoreline along the affected coasts. Be
prepared for road closures. Postpone entering or leaving channels
affected by the high surf until the surf subsides.
